We are looking for a Design Engineer to join the Quickflange™ team, based in Carnforth.

The Design Engineer will provide engineering support primarily to the Quickflange™ business unit. The main purpose of the role is to perform engineering design using Computer Aided Design (CAD) packages for Quickflange™ components.

This role will report to the Engineering Technical Authority – Quickflange™.

The main tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • To perform 3D CAD using SolidWorks to create parts, assemblies, and drawings.
  • To liaise with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to help manage the manufacture of components.
  • To ensure all drawings, documents and calculations are filed according to ICR procedures.
  • Checking of calculations, designs & manufacturing drawings.
  • Project management of allocated work.
  • Develop procedures for, perform, and record workshop Factory Acceptance Testing.
  • To investigate non-conformances relating to any quality or safety issues.
  • Technical support for sales in reviewing new scope of works and authorising correct supply of equipment for all locations.
  • Producing procedures relating to the operation, maintenance, and handling of Quickflange™ products.
  • Provide engineering support for other business units within the ICR group when required.

Key Skills, Attributes and Experience:

  • HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent discipline is an advantage but not essential (HNC acceptable with relevant experience).
  • Previous relevant engineering experience.
  • Extensive use of 3D modelling software (ideally SolidWorks).
  • Excellent communication and organisation skills.
  • Ability to problem-solve, multitask and work to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to build relationships with internal and external clients.
  • Self-starter that takes a collaborative approach and really enjoys working as part of a team.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and self-manage own workload.
  • Sets high standards in quality of work and excellent attention to detail.

The Technician/Machinist will carry out machining activities in the ICR Carnforth workshop to support the undertaking of safe systems and work relevant to the operational requirement of On-Site Machining, together with carrying out On-Site Bolting.

This role will report to the Workshop Supervisor.

  • To be competent in aspects of maintenance and testing of On-Site Machining and Hydraulic Bolt Tensioning equipment.
  • To comply and adhere to role as per ICR Training and Competency Framework ICR-BMS-01-HR-PRO-062.
  • Carry out the operation of all workshop machine tools in ICR Carnforth facility, this is to provide machining cover for all business units in ICR, this shall include the manufacture of jigs, fixtures, and components.
  • Ability to look at potential scopes of work, to prepare equipment and manufacture any necessary modifications.
  • Assist with pro-active breakdown-repairs / maintenance of portable machines in the support of site operations.
  • To support with maintenance and testing of On-Site Machining and Hydraulic Bolt Tensioning equipment.
  • Manufacturing / modifying equipment from CAD drawings.
  • Completion of all record sheets in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Ensure good, safe working practices in the workshop are maintained at all times with compliance to the Company’s HSE policies.
  • Responsible for all QA/QC checks on all product and service lines are carried out as per job requirements where necessary.
  • Assist with inventory and ensure all minimum/maximum levels are maintained.
  • Assist with organising general workshop machining and assisting with general workshop tasks if workload demand.
  • Provide weekly updates to Workshop Supervisor / Operations Manager / Business Manager on all activities.
  • Maintain records in accordance with internal quality systems, procedures.
  • From time to time it may be necessary for employees to carry out other relevant tasks and duties to contribute towards achieving total customer satisfaction and improving the operational effectiveness of the Company.
  • Suitable training / skill level to operate the workshop machine.
  • Must be able to read engineering drawings
  • IT skills: Microsoft Word and Excel (minimum) and SAP (preferably).
  • Mechanical time served apprenticeship or equivalent qualifications and experience in mechanical/ engineering discipline.
  • Experience in a mechanical/ fitter background.
  • Good organisation skills;
  • Good report writing skills;
  • Ability to adhere to quality management systems and internal processes e.g. ITP.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and self-manage own workload and those of others;
  • Sets high standards in quality of work with attention to detail;
  • Flexibility and the willingness to contribute to new ideas and processes is a must.
